September 1982 —Several believers had a vision to reach out to the Chinese community in southeast Edmonton.January 2nd, 1983—The first worship service was conducted at Edith Rogers Junior High School. Over 100 persons were in attendance. October 1983—God led Rev. Cyrus Lam and his family to serve as ECCC’s first Senior Pastor. The church started to rent its present location in that year.
October 1987—The 450-seat sanctuary adjacent to the existing building was completed, in order to accommodate the growing congregation of over 200. January 1992—The Education Building was completed, creating much necessary classroom space for Sunday School.
1995—The English congregation, numbering over 100 people, moved into the sanctuary for Sunday worship services. 1996—In response to a sizable influx of mainland Chinese immigrants, a second service was started to reach out to this group of Mandarin-speaking group. March 1996—The 2.5-acre site, including the existing building (formerly a Catholic school), was purchased, as the church sought to expand its facilities. April 1999—An independent Mandarin worship ministry was established.
2000—All three congregations voted unanimously to proceed with a fourth phase of the building expansion project.
June 2003—The fourth phase of the building expansion was completed, creating a 300-seat auditorium with an adjacent gymnasium and an additional 20 classrooms. When the divider is removed, the auditorium and gym combine to hold 750 people during joint worship services.
September 2004—The Cantonese-speaking congregation began a Saturday evening worship service as an outreach ministry.2004—Important constitutional amendments were made, paving the way for a new governance model to be implemented in January 2006.
May 2012—Amended the By-laws and the Saturday Church Ministry (SCM) was formed as an additional Congregation.
Our church is keen in missions. Since the beginning of the church we have organized 49 local and overseas short term mission trips with over 160 participants in spreading the Christian faith around the world. To work towards the 2020 Vision of Act Missional, we support church building projects in India, Colombia and Cambodia. We raise local missionaries and send them out to the mission fields. We are committed to advance gospel work beyond our local church by increasing the mission budget as the church budget grows. In 2015, the mission expenditures represent a 17% of general fund budget.
Our mission steering committee launched a vision trip with a team of our leaders to Guatemala scouting the long term partnership with local mission agency and churches from 2016 onward.
